Session 1 - An Answer to the World Riddle
Domino writes...
The World Riddle
We meet in Alusia. A tinker outside
Novadom is waiting for us and gives us directions to
Sumaldi, where Mark is. We travel there without incident to find some seriously hard-working goblins rebuilding the place. A Death wanders out of a building, who seems to inspire the goblins, and he in a deep, bone-dry voice says, FOLLOW ME.
The Death leads us to an audience chamber where we see Mark seated. The pleasantries are brief and we get down to business.
Mark explains that the Seal Angels have returned and are currently resurrecting. He spoke with them and learned of the much anticipated news: what was it they encountered in the Outer Darkness and what was it that killed them so swiftly. They found out that the world riddle is about to be answered.
This, Mark pointed out, will
complete the universe and end change. It will be like
ice-crystals growing in water - the universe will cease. The question, "Is there a God?" will be answered.
We discussed some options with Mark:
- Speak with Lord Tirwh of House Kerberoth and try to increase the uncertainty there.
- Go to the Library of Leng and perhaps speak with the Elder Ones.
- Go to Ys in Hell, an outcome which might require the release of the Devil.
- Get some Time Flies from the Pit.
- Beret is travelling through the Abyss as a little girl. So attack him.
Mark was particularly keen for us to attack
Berith, so we shook on it. So first stop, via House Kerberoth, will be the Abyss.
As we were leaving, we found an odd house nearby. It was like the House of Many Rooms, but just a young horror. We had a poke around and discovered it had five connections, two of which were unreal:
- Victoria, Bedlum
- New Terra, Kammet
- Perfidious Albion
- The Outer Darkness
- The Imagination
The house was drawing madness from Bedlum. The guardian of the house was a Cenobite. A tough creature with a tetrahedral torso.
Road to Kerberoth
Mark let us travel through the Valley of Death to Jiroth in the Lands of Chaos. We visited Theothrastis for some supplies. He mentioned that there are some singing bees being kept at the nearby church. I was curious, so went there and met with Kreyten nel Vethra, the keeper of the bees. He said their honey and wax have magical properties. I noticed he had a hidden rune of control on his forehead and suggested he has it removed. He agreed (while cursing Blackrod) and allowed me to remove it. I then traded for some honey and wax from the bees. Of particular interest was the wax, which can be used to create seals - for example, to hold onto Substance without Form.
We headed off, over the mountains where the griffons are. A few prides saw us and lined up in attack formation and came screaming in.
Now, "griffon" stems from griphos in Latin, meaning riddle. But I didn't think they'd care, so we just attacked.
