Masquerade is a questor for Beauty, and searches it out whenever he can. For five years in every century, he is reacquainted with his true love. But, this love is doomed and he always loses her tragically.
While he exhibits a clown-like resilience, his joy is never completely unalloyed unless in the presence of Beauty.
While he has a reasonably cavalier attitude with respect to the ownership of property, he would never countenance wholesale slaughter and unecessary violence shocks him.
