EditEnough already! What happened?
EditBackground
The party had been tracking someone who had come through this town. Whilst here they discovered that children were being abducted during the nights. This had been going on for some time and the residents had not long realised that it was happening and that something was taking them.
All evidence pointed towards a roof entry. The tiles of the rooves were removed and then something had entered and so terrified the children that they fled. The creature would then follow the child until they were far enough out of town that they could carry them off. The party soon found evidence that they were avian in nature and could inflict some sort of fear.
EditOnward and Upward
A plan was laid that involved the characters keeping watch at night at various points about the town. On the 4th night, a group of 3 non-terrestrial creatures were spotted, heading towards the town hall (where the children were gathered). Everyone except Joachim were able to sneak relatively close whereupon Nereus cast a Defensive grenade into the midst of two of the creatures, severely damaging one and inflicting a wound on the other.
At this point, the less wounded of the two critters emanated some sort of terror attack which forced everyone except Nereus to flee in fear, which as you can imagine had Nereus somewhat concerned. Meanwhile the third creature pulled a shriveled babies head from its bandoleer and threw it at Nereus. As it descended, the head expanded and became a homonculous. No wishing to be left out of the action, the wounded creature started hurling roof tiles at Nereus.
Not wanting to waste time dealing with the homonculous or being skewered by roofing tiles, Nereus hurled himself at the wounded creature, shield leading the way, and landed a mighty blow with Sea Breeze knocking it back a few steps and opening a new wound. Not to be outdone, the creature unleashed a kick which buckled some of Nereus's armoured leg plates. Acting quickly, Nereus attempted to swat the creature again, but missed narrowly and was forced to defend himself as the creature scratched, clawed, kicked and bit at him. Coming away with a few new bruises and scrapes Nereus took advantage of his experience and snapped off a quick smack with the hammer, driving the creature back a few more steps.
As the two opponents drew together once more, Nereus smashed his enemy again, opening more wounds and was again greeted with more claws and bites. He had failed to notice an incoming kick however and was force to jump upwards and backwards, off the roof. Acting quickly he used his arcane magic to hurl himself back into the fray, barely missing his opponent as he did.
Flew up, grappled an smashed at the flying critter...Eliakim trumped in. Wounded critter tore the head off his badly damaged mate and ate it, then flew off. Last critter was pulled to bits by Eliakim and Nereus.
Nereus used some of the blood to track the remaining critter back to a major city. It ended up in a stealth pyramid next to the local cathedral - coincidence? I think not!
